What Will My Child Learn in ISR?
Rollback to Float
All students, even those as young as 6 months old, learn the fundamental ISR skill of rolling onto their backs to float, rest, and breathe. Infants and toddlers who are not yet walking well will learn to maintain this position until help can reach them, and it's just as important for our older students as they incorporate more swimming skills.
Swim - Float - Swim
As toddlers and young children gain more physical skills on land, they are ready to learn more skills in the water as well. ISR teaches children to swim a short distance, rotate onto their back to a floating position, and then turn over to continue the sequence of swimming and floating until they can reach safety at the steps, side of the pool, or shoreline.
How Long Does it Take?
Days a Week
Because children thrive on repetition and consistency.
This provides safe and realistic time frame for a child to focus on learning skills that are very physically, mentally and emotionally challenging.
Every child learns at their own speed. On average it takes 6-8 weeks to master the ISR Self-Rescue skills.
Does My Child Need More Lessons?
Refreshers & Maintenance
REFRESHERS: After completing the initial ISR Self-Rescue program, refresher lessons are suggested every six months and are scheduled for five days per week, for 2 weeks. Children grow rapidly in the first 5 years of life, so their skills need to be adjusted periodically to their new height, weight and developmental readiness. Also, since swimming is rarely practiced year around, Refreshers help students regain their competence and confidence in the water after a long break of not using their skills.
MAINTENANCE: After completing the initial ISR Self-Rescue program, maintenance lessons help students to maintain their skills and confidence throughout the year and can indicate readiness for skill advancement. They are single-day lessons that should be scheduled at intervals recommended by the instructor, ranging from once a week to once a month.
How Much Does it Cost?
The Value of ISR
When considering the cost of ISR lessons, keep in mind that you are paying for a series of condensed, customized lessons for your child over a short period of time that will provide independent skills that could be used to save your child's life.
